Game # 2 Basic Soft vs Diamonds on my Neck

Final Score:
Basic Soft 47
Diamonds 64

Coach Po press conference:

Q: Coach even though you lost how much better do you think your team looked?
A: Well Bob, I think we looked miles above last week. I think we came out a lot more relaxed and it showed early.

Q: What did you guys do differently this time that helped you not get mercy ruled?
A: Stop smiling Fred, we still lost so there is nothing funny right now. I think we just relaxed and stop trying to thread the needle with every single pass. I think we worked the ball inside a lot more and made the defense work harder.

Q: What changes still have to be made in order to actually win a game this season?
A: Thats a good question, Joesph... I can tell you went to college for 4 years. Anyway, we need to have better communication on the court. Every damn time we got pressed we turned the ball over or did something dumb. I think we need better play out of our PG as well. 12 turnovers in 2 games out of the PG spot is just not going to get it done, look for a change to be made there in the coming weeks.

Q: Be honest, coach- Can you win a game this season?
A: Yes, in fact..... I GUARANTEE IT

Game Summary:

Basic Soft started out the game on fire with a couple of 3s from Rick Rouan. Basic Soft enjoyed their first lead of the season at 11-6, then fell apart. Diamonds on my Neck went on a 16-2 run and took the lead 22-13. Rick Rouan continued to make 3s and also a couple of nice baskets by Matt Zapotosky kept Basic Soft in the game in the first half cutting the margin to 25-21 with 20 seconds left. Jason Fazzone had a couple of bad turnovers right before half which cost the team 4 additional pts and at the half it was Diamonds 29 Basic Soft 21.
The lead continued to get bigger in the 2nd half mainly due to a lack of defensive effort. Having only 7 players took its toll as Basic Soft players wore down in energy the entire half. Fighting through the pain of leg cramps, Rick Rouan played an amazing game scoring a team-high 18 pts and grabbed a team-high 9 rebs, and also chipped in 3 assists. Matt Zapotosky ended up with a team-high 14 shot attempts making 5 of them. He finished with 13 pts and 4 assists. Jim Coleman, who was a late addition to the starting lineup due to Jeff Creamer's extreme softness, had a nice game scoring 10 pts and grabbing 6 rebs. Even though the offensive scoring clicked much better, the let down came on the defensive end and with turnovers. Once again Basic Soft put up too many turnovers (17). Not mentioning any names, but the PG put up another 6 turnover game. Coach Po thinks hes going to start Zapotosky at the PG and move the 'un-named individual' to SG next week.

Game # 1 Basic Soft vs Stat Deviates

Final Score:
Stat Deviates 65
Basic Soft 33

Coach Po Post-game Press Conference:
Q: Coach what happened out there tonight?
A: Before we start I would just like to issue a public apology to James Naismith for making the game he created look so shitty. I have no idea who those guys were out there tonight. Never have I ever seen the game of basketball played that bad.

Q: Coach you seem extremely upset tonight, is that accurate?
A: Thats an extremely dumb question so im not even going to answer it

Q: What do you think the main reason was for the poor effort?
A: I dont even know, the reason Im so pissed is because our team is not as bad as they played. When we practice every Friday afternoon we got some guys that know how to ball and know how to shoot, tonight none of that happened. We couldnt shoot the ball, we couldnt throw a pass longer than 5 feet, we had people putting up air-balls from the free throw line, and almost had as many turnovers as points

Q: Are any lineup or substitution changes going to occur?
A: HAHAHA im not even dealing with that part of the game anymore, trying to include 13 players in the game on a continual basis is impossible. From now on, the team is going to run their own subs and well see how that goes

Q: Anything else youre going to do differently that might help the team?
A: Nothing is out of the question, who knows I might even grab a jersey and get in

Game Summary:
The game started off with a bunch of baskets being exchanged. The entire Basic Soft team had the philosophy of running early and tiring out Stat Deviates, who only brought 6 guys to the court compared to Soft's 13 guys. Soft hung in until the defense broke down and they stopped running on offense completely (actually i dont think they ever started running). Jeff Creamer kept Basic Soft in the game early nailing his first two 3-pt shots, but then went cold and went 0-4 the rest of the game. By halftime the lead was 15 and Basic Soft seemed to just quit. They couldnt score in the second half and the turnovers grew at a steady rate. Jason Fazzone put up a Larry Hughes-like game from the PG spot, being responsible for 0 assists and 6 turnovers. The leading scorer was a late addition to the team, Jon Hart. He was responsible for 9pts 3reb and 1ast (and yes, 1ast was tied for the team lead). His roommate Mike Spence also chipped in 8 pts and was 2-4 behind the arc. In the end Basic Soft showed no heart and no desire to win. They all looked like they were nervous as hell, and when the lead grew everyone tried to do their own thing. Hopefully it was just first game jitters and the 2nd game will be much more improved. Main thing that needs to be turned around is turnovers, Basic Soft put up what I think is an intramural record, 22 turnovers in one game.

Team Leaders:
Points: Jon Hart (9), Mike Spence (8)
Rebounds: Jim Coleman (5), Rick Rouan (4)
Assists: Jon Hart (1), Jeff Creamer (1), Matt Zapotosky (1)

TEAM LOGO/MASCOT:

Yes, our team mascot is a roll of toilet paper. It will be on the sidelines cheering on the team at every game. Before each game every member of the team is required to rub the toilet paper for good luck. A team photo with the signatures of all the players on the roll will be taken soon and posted.

TEAM STRATEGY:
Right now Coach Po is thinking of letting his team run a little on offense, and then drop back into a 2-3 zone on defense to save the legs. Obviously the starting lineup will have to consist of solid 3-pt shooters if the plan is going to be to run early. If the 3-pt shooting is strong then the running will continue, if the 3-pt shooting sucks then we can put in the big men and work the inside. I realize a running offense dropping into a zone defense has very rarely been used in basketball, but its basically a soft defense so I think Team Basic Soft can handle it.

Thats about all I got for you people in the pre-game edition of the Intramural blog. Regardless of the outcome the entire team will be headed out to the bars after the game Thursday night so feel free to come up and hang out with the stars. BASIC KNOWLEDGE..........
